ABSs and MSOs program
On August 19, 2026, Nathan M. Crystal and Francesca Giannoni-Crystal presented a CLE, Ethical Issues for Alternative Business Structures and Management Services Organizations.
The program provided guidance to attorneys on the ethical considerations arising from the growing use of Alternative Business Structures (ABSs) and Management Services Organizations (MSOs) in the practice of law.
The program examined the structure and operation of ABSs and MSOs, including the different models through which lawyers may participate in these organizations, co-counsel arrangements, and issues involved in negotiating MSO agreements. The presentation focused in particular on the professional-responsibility risks that lawyers should consider when entering into or working with these structures.
Among the topics addressed were the impact of ABSs and MSOs on the traditional practice of law, permissible organizational and participation models, potential ethical risks, and recent ethics opinions and developments in state regulation.
